Be A Light in our Dark World – Tool #2 Get God Involved!

What is it that 99 percent of people possess? I’m sure you thought of several things. The one I’m thinking of is neighbors. Most people live in some kind of neighborhood—yes, an apartment complex counts!

What can you do right now, for those people in your neighborhood to get started being a light in their worlds? These words of the apostle Paul remind me of those most powerful tool in our evangelism tool box:

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should (Colossians 4:2-4).

We can all pray, and there is nothing to stop you from beginning right away. Some friends of ours, Al and Iris, have developed a nifty tool to help you pray for your neighbors…

Print off this picture from The Art of Neighboring. Write the names of your neighbors in the eight houses or apartments closest to you and pay attention to the blank spacespeople’s whose names you don’t know yet. Identify one or more neighbors that you are going to pray for over the next week.
