In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat heard the worst news of his life—a vast army was marching against him! His response, and the postures that displayed his internal attitudes, revealed his faith. Jehoshaphat reacted by:
- Humbling his heart
- Lifting his eyes
- Submitting his feet, and
- Bowing his face
All this would have been for nothing if he had put his trust in the wrong thing. Imagine if he had displayed these postures toward an idol made of carved rock (as many people did in that day) or trusted modern-day items like wealth or his job title to see him through battle.
When Jehoshaphat heard the news, he prayed to the LORD, remembering the qualities of the One in whom he put his faith:
O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you (2 Chronicles 20:6 NIV).
You and I have access to the same God! He is a mighty ruler and is worthy of our trust.
Next time you see an “army” coming at you, join me in remembering the qualities of our Mighty God as we seek him in postures of faith.
