Forgotten Beginnings

Beginnings tell you a lot about any story. We recently watched an intriguing thriller in which the plot and key characters were laid out in the first five minutes of the show. Try missing the first 15 minutes of a good movie, and you’ll spend the rest of the time trying to catch up! The beginnings of our own lives tell us a lot about our journeys, too.

As depicted in the Bible, humanity’s beginning gives us keen insights, for it put in motion and set the stage for our destiny. True, the story quickly takes a turn for the worse as men and women began to choose paths toward a destiny other than God’s plan.

In our natural God-given beginning, we find an amazing and hopeful foundation for how we can view our life’s purpose––present and future!

The God who spoke the world into existence, who put the stars in place and made all the natural things we see, spoke out regarding His most prized creations:

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature. So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.” God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female (Genesis 1:26,27, MSG)

Amazing, isn’t it? In the beginning, God, the divine architect, created us––men and women––with Himself as a template. While we are not like Him in many ways, because He alone is God, we do reflect His image and we are made to represent Him.

How does it make you feel, knowing that before time began, that in our Father’s eye His purpose was to create a humanity that was like Himself?

As someone desiring to grow in your relationship with God, what feelings or impressions does this bring to life in your soul?
