Just a few days ago, my wife, Pam, and I stood on a hilltop in the dark, surrounded by others watching flames and smoke swallow the foothills of Colorado Springs. We knew some of those blazes might be swallowing our home. Those around us feared the same. That night Pam and I held each other close and wept and prayed.
We believe the truth from the Bible even in the midst of difficulty:
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him. (Psalm 91:1,2)
That night these words of poetry pierced my soul:
Though darkness fall like weight upon
And flames from hills encompass all,
I have assurance of His presence,
Still enthroned in Heaven on high.
God is good. He still reigns and there’s purpose in what happens in our lives. Sometimes life requires us to “dig down deep” for the faith God has grown in our souls. We dig and find the solid Rock.
