Mystery Revealed

I’m amazed when I consider an aspect of the Gospel revealed in the words of Paul. In the letter to the church at Colossae, Paul reveals the central message he’s been asked to deliver. He calls it, “the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints” (Colossians 1:26 NIV). He goes on to describe this mystery, this facet of the Good News of Christ, this way:

God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27 NIV).

While Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob knew Him as “God Almighty” (Exodus 6:2), and Moses came to know and experience Him as the great “I am” (Exodus 3:14), we have been given such a fuller revelation and experience of God Himself!

Paul goes on to describe this amazing facet of the Good News in this way,

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority (Colossians 2:9,10 NIV).

All the fullness of God dwells in Jesus Christ (see also Colossians 1:19). Jesus is in us through the new birth. Amazing and mysterious isn’t it?!
